Find out if your computer is capable of running Zorin OS and which edition is better suited for your computer.

Minimum hardware specifications

These are the minimum hardware specifications required to install Zorin OS on a computer. If your computer doesn’t meet these requirements, you might not be able to run Zorin OS on it.

  • CPU: 1 GHz Dual Core – Intel/AMD 64-bit processor
  • RAM: 1½ GB
  • Storage: 15 GB (Core), 32 GB (Education), or 40 GB (Pro)
  • Display: 1024 × 768 resolution

Mac computers

With Intel processors

Most Intel-based Mac computers should be natively compatible with Zorin OS.

However, if your Mac has a T2 Security Chip, you’ll need to follow some additional steps to get Zorin OS installed and set up on your computer.

With Apple silicon processors

Mac computers with Apple silicon processors are not currently capable of running Zorin OS natively. However, you may be able to use an app called UTM to run Zorin OS in a virtual machine on Mac computers with Apple silicon processors.

Microsoft Surface devices

Intel & AMD processors

Microsoft Surface devices with Intel & AMD processors should be compatible with the latest version of Zorin OS. However, you may need to perform additional setup on some Microsoft Surface models for optimal compatibility with Zorin OS.

ARM-based processors

Microsoft Surface devices with ARM-based processors (Snapdragon or Microsoft SQ series) are not currently compatible with Zorin OS.

Framework Laptops

Framework Laptops are compatible with the latest version of Zorin OS. However, you may need to perform additional setup to get the best experience on Zorin OS.

Chromebooks

Some Chromebook devices can’t install Zorin OS due to software limitations imposed by Google on Chromebook manufacturers.

On supported models, you may need to enable Developer Mode and unlock the device’s bootloader. To continue, we recommend that you search the Internet for details on enabling Developer Mode and unlocking the bootloader for your specific make and model of Chromebook.

Raspberry Pi support

We don’t currently have a version of Zorin OS for Raspberry Pi computers. However, we plan to create a version for Raspberry Pi 4 & 400 in the future.
